B.E.S.T. Consulting for New TV Series The Life

Advocates in the fight against human trafficking agree that one of the biggest obstacles to concrete action against the problem is often lack of awareness. In order to effectively combat human trafficking, people need to know that the problem exists and understand it. The average citizen needs to know about the reality and extent of human trafficking, needs to understand the perspectives of victims, needs to be informed about how to stop and prevent the issue. Out of this need for awareness has been birthed the idea for a new television series called The Life. The dream for the series has emerged through the work of co-creators George Perez and Mohammad Maaty, producer Q’orianka Kilcher, and consultant Linda Sullivan of B.E.S.T.-Building Empowerment by Stopping Trafficking.

B.E.S.T. is consulting for the new television series The Life and will assist in creating an accurate and realistic television series that aims to shed some much-needed light on the present conditions in the fight against child sex trafficking. The television project’s intent is to create a television series that raises awareness to the ongoing fight against the sexual exploitation of young children in our own communities. Viewers will learn about brave men and women: heroes who fight tirelessly, twenty four-seven, to rescue young kids from dangerous streets and violent, manipulative pimps who prey on the innocent. They will learn that children who are sexually exploited are not in the life because they choose to be. Most importantly, viewers will learn how to do their part to literally save lives, the lives of children who could be their daughters and sons, sisters and brothers. The website for The Life (http://thelifetvseries.com) declares that, “Knowledge is power and we will arm you with the tools to fight on behalf of those who desperately need your help. This is more than a fictitious piece of entertainment. This is a human rights advocacy mission. Join us and make a difference.”

Linda Sullivan, Executive Director of B.E.S.T.-Building Empowerment by Stopping Trafficking, remarks, “Veering from the traditional ‘bad guys of the week’ by forcing drama to keep sanity and morality intact within a criminal lifestyle forced upon human trafficking victims, The Life promises to pull the audience into the emotional toll of lies and deceptions of the charismatic criminals as though the viewers were the survivors themselves. The Life promises to be literate and stylish. The producers and creators have given this upcoming TV Series ‘a life of its own,’ promising many up-and-coming stars ready to sink their teeth into juicy roles, whether as the flashy but flawed criminals, tragic victims, or the legal arm paired with passionate advocates.”

B.E.S.T. is privileged to provide consultation to help create an accurate portrayal of the realities facing human trafficking victims. We look forward to seeing the difference this project could make in the lives of those who have suffered abuse through sexual exploitation.
